Apologies to Queen Mary

Hailing from Montreal, Canada's new Toronto, Wolf Parade have produced a brilliant debut record that is overflowing with nervous, twitching intensity. The band's two vocalists split the work fairly evenly, but it is Spencer Krug's chaotic blend of Bowie and Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) that is the most absorbing. From the drum intro of "You are a Runner and I am my Father's Son", Apologies sounds huge. Its urgent and chaotic enough to keep your attention throughout, yet offers enough subtlety to stay fresh. Although the release of this album was hyped to the max and I was expecting to hear a Clap Your Hands and Say Arcade Fire imitation, Apologies to Queen Mary is charming, bold and in short, a bit genius.
