A House Of Light

This family saga is also a tense plot-based thriller and a seamlessly written exploration of the ways in which people sacrifice themselves to deceit. The novel presents a world wherein undisclosed stories hover on everyone’s lips, and every creak and shadow in the writer’s painstakingly crafted country house harbors a lie waiting to be bought to light. Protagonist Katherine’s profession as photographer allows Clark’s authorial eye to take intimate snapshots of characters’ lives. So often and so lyrically does she manage to capture in words the unspoken story within photos that readers will be impressed with memorable images long after they finish reading them. This is an unstoppable read - Clark propels readers through her pages with a technical expertise and a haunting poetic style. Candida Clark’s fifth novel should, by rights, finally expose her powers to a wider readership and give her the recognition she deserves.
