The Woods
This doesn’t sound like Sleater- Kinney. They left Kill Rock Stars, bought a bunch of guitar pedals and started experimenting in the studio with David Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mogwai, Low) and the result is a record that nods toward elaborate 70’s rock. At times, The Woods sounds loud, baggy and refreshingly inventive, especially given the current trend of Gang of Four clones. However, there are a few too many points where this new direction can feel a little forced and almost dreary. The raw energy of “Entertainment” stands out as the album’s great success.
