For many of us the freedom to choose our career disappears during the transition between university and employment. At university we're busy, protective of the quickly passing time and uninspired by typical graduate careers. After university, we need to earn money and want to start this new part of life quickly and successfully. We never take ownership of this notional freedom of choice about what we do next.
This site aims to get you thinking about your future earlier and with more enthusiasm, especially if you are studying a 'non-vocational' degree programme.
Designed and illustrated by up-coming visual and graphic artists the transitiontradition magazine features intelligent editorial content - from articles about personal experiences of transition to interviews and opinion pieces from academics, authors and artists. Each issue showcases the talents and skills of its audience.
The directory provides access to a plethora of resources in particular information about roles and opportunities in the cultural industries which are under-represented elsewhere. The site forum and national events listings mean you can link to a community whatever your geographical location.
So many of us are temporarily isolated after university as we return to our home towns or move to new cities in search of work. We struggle with employment, underemployment and unemployment but no-one reassures us our individual experiences of transition are part of a shared tradition. This site presents the experiences, talents and knowledge of the graduate diaspora and reminds us we are part of the transitiontradition.
